Lele Modise is the Group Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer. Prior to this appointment, Lele held the position of Group Chief Legal Counsel. Given the strong interdependence between the Legal and Regulatory functions, Lele’s responsibilities will now extend to also lead the Regulatory function.

Lele joined MTN from Absa, where she was the General Counsel for Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), which included the regulatory function. In addition to her role as General Counsel (CIB), Lele also established and led Transaction Management which supported the delivery of end-to-end deal execution services, consisting of legal structuring and solutioning, and post-deal management services. Lele was also acting General Counsel for Wealth, Investment Management and Insurance at Absa, whilst still continuing with her role as General Counsel for Absa CIB.

Lele began her career at Bell Dewar & Hall (now Fasken Martineau) and was admitted to the High Court as an attorney in 2003. She went on to be a Partner at Bowman Gilfillan, specialising in Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions, Banking and Finance, and later became the firm’s head of its Private Equity Practice.

Lele is skilled in the areas of capital markets and securities law, banking and finance, corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and private equity. Lele has also worked extensively across Africa on transactions across her areas of specialisation.
